Cannot connect flic2 to Mac!?
-
@oskar Any luck? Thank you again for the assistance.
-
@oskar I have both a Flic 1 and a Flic 2 I'm using with the Mac.
I don't ever get the dialogue asking to confirm pairing.
I factory reset the Flic 2, but got the same "Stuck on 99%" result. It does flash green once when pressed, though.
Strangely enough, the Flic 1 now works.
Any further ideas?
Thanks! -
@thecudes Thank you for submitting the log! After having a closer look we see that it tries to connect, but fails stating that it is currently connected to another device.
Is this a Flic 2? (LED in the edge of press area)?
When pressing, make sure it is pulsating with a yellow light.
Also, when connecting, macOS will pop up a dialogue asking to confirm pairing. Do you get this dialogue?
To make sure you could perform a factory reset to clear any old pairings that might interfere.
Open the battery hatch by twisting the back side.
Remove the battery for 10 seconds, then re-insert it and immediately press and hold the Flic for 10 seconds. When releasing it should blink red fast 3 times.
Pressing again should show a red fade, this indicates that it has no pairings.
Now try to add it to the Flic app on your mac.
Please let me know if this helped!

@oskar BT Log submitted! Thank you so much for your help.

@thecudes Hi!
Sorry to hear this, it would be very helpful if you could submit a Bluetooth Log so we can take a closer look of what is causing this.
First, recreate the issue by trying to connect a Flic, then in the top menu, select Flic -> Submit BT Log. Write "Stuck on 99%" as description.
Once again, sorry for everyone experiencing this issue! Hopefully a BT log will help us track this issue down!

+1
Just upgraded to Monterey (yes, my company is behind), and all my buttons stopped working. Very frustrating.
Are there no Mac users using Flics? What am I to do with all my Keyboard Maestro customizations?
Please help...
-
@oskar Oh, and also make sure you have deleted any old pairings in the Bluetooth device list i System Preferences!
-
@nikolai-misc Hmm, this sounds very strange. I am currently testing this on macOS Monterey 12.2.1 and I cannot seem to be able to reproduce the problems mentioned in this thread.
Does the Flic connect to other devices like an iPhone or Android without issues, are the problems exclusive for the mac app?
There should be absolutely no problem moving the Flic from one device to another so there is definitely something strange going on.
Just to be super clear, this is how connecting a previously paired button should look like:
Make sure the Flic app for mac is at version 2.1.0.
When pressed, the button should pulsate with yellow 2 times, this means it is trying to connect to something.
Press the "Add Flic" button in the mac app.
Press and hold the Flic for about 6 seconds.
The Flic should flash Green and connect to the mac app.If you see any other LED behaviour, like fast red flashes, it might be low on battery.
I have some questions in order to narrow down the issue.
- Is this a Flic 1 or 2? (Flic 1 has the LED in the center while Flic 2 has the LED on the edge)
- Can it be connected to other devices, such as smart phones witout problem?
- When you are trying to connect to the mac, can you describe how the LED behaves? Which colors and patterns are seen when it fails.

@nikolai-misc Even if I unplug the hub to which my Flic was previously connected, my Flic still cannot connect to my MacBook. So it's not the case that two different devices are competing over the connecting, since the other device is unplugged and disabled. Rather, it seems that the Flic itself still thinks it's connected to a hub from which it has been deleted. And as a result of that, I can't connect it to my laptop at all. Very frustrating!
-
@oskar That has not solved the problem. In my case, I deleted the button from my hub BEFORE trying to connect it to my laptop, and I experienced the same problem (connecting, the circular progress bar gets 99.999% filled, one pixel of progress remaining, and nothing happens).
This continues to happen with Flic buttons that are definitely not connected to existing hubs, and it's pretty frustrating (I've dealt with this a lot over the past few months). It feels like if you decide to repurpose a Flic button from one routine to another, you have to throw it away and buy a new one, which is very discouraging due to the cost. If it won't connect to my devices, what good is it?

Same thing for me. I am on Monterey 12.1. I have unpaired my Flic2 from my phone. When I attempt to pair it with my Mac, it says, "Found one! Connecting...", the ring goes almost all the way around the flic logo but never completes.

we have ran into the same issue with monterey.. the company i work for would actually be interested in using dozens of the buttons if we could get them to connect to this latest os for our macs.. however, i do have to wonder that even if they do find us a workable version for this issue.. if we use the product in a high production environment and get to a point that our day to day really depends on the buttons working correctly.. what happens on the next upgrade.. are we sitting ducks until a rewrite of the app happens.. I have sent my info (email) to flic several times and each time they tell me to reset the button.. which doesnt help.. i also have brand new buttons that have never been connected that will not connect.. would really like to use the product but currently cant and am loosing confidence in their ability to resolve issues in a timely manner.

oh glad its not just me! I've been having the same issue since I updated to Monterey (2018 Intel Mac mini). using 2.1.0 I try to add a button to my Mac. The flic / App seem to be connecting and pairing (the flic button switches to green) and the App says the usual "Found one, connecting". but then the process just kind of hangs there. Shortly after pressing the flic returns to its unpaired orange blink. In my case I do not believe this is an issue with the button being paired to another device. I can pair/unpair from my iPad and iPhone with no problems (including the 'forget this device' step in bluetooth). Other things I have tried that never seemed to work was the usual, 'sudo pkill bluetoothd' and restart, deleting com.apple.bluetooth and restart, booting in safe mode, and resetting the SMC. Of course Apple has removed the debug and logging options from the bluetooth menu via 'option + shift'. so its anyones guess as to what is actually happening. There was also a 'factory reset' of my flic button too, but also to no avail.
I personally don't believe that the FLICTEAM has tested their products in the US with the latest versions of macOS, but that's just my opinion.

@daniel-1 Hi! Sorry about this!
Please make sure that the button is deleted from any other device, it sounds a bit like two different devices is competing over the connection.Please let me know wether this worked!
